We know most of you who worship Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri are confused about the day to keep fast. That is why we are sharing this post to explain to you why you should fast on 13th February.
Mahashivratri 2018: 13th or 14 Feb and why?
Mahashivrati is celebrated on Chaturdashi. On 13th Feb 2018, Chaturdashi will take place after 10 p.m.
In the word Mahashivratri, you can clearly notice the importance given to the word night.
Although you can keep fast on the 14th Feb, the most beneficial day will be 13th because you will be fasting the major period of Chaturdashi time at night.
What is the correct manner of doing fast on Shivratri?
There are two ways of fasting on Mahashivratri and both are correct ways if you are fasting from your heart.
You can keep a fast without eating anything the whole day. You can also fast by having fruits and juices once in the day and one meal in the evening.
Most people believe that by having the meal in the evening they are completing their fast and there are some who believe that we need to fast the whole day. Both the ways are correct because they are performing the fast for Lord Shiva.
